Conjunctivitis Treatment - Advice To Deal With Jiva Ayurveda

Eyes – gateway to every beautiful thing we see is one of the most precious things gifted by nature to us. That is why it is extremely important to take proper care of our eyes. Due to increase in pollution and other lifestyle disorders, eye infections like conjunctivitis is very common. Conjunctivitis causes inflammation of conjunctiva, which is a thin transparent layer around the eye ball. It protects the white portion of the eye. Ayurveda provides extremely beneficial cataract treatment for eyes without any side effects. Looking from Ayurvedic perspective, conjunctivitis, also known as Netrabhishanda or Abhisyandain affects the entire eye.

According to Ayurveda, the three doshas – pitta, kapha and vata regulate our bodies and any imbalance in these doshas cause disorder in the body. Before we move to the conjunctivitis treatment, let’s first understand the different categories of conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis can be classified into four types based upon the doshas:
  • Vataja Abhishyanda: Causes pain in the eye
  • Pittaja Abhishyanda: Causes burning sensation in the eye
  • Kaphaja Abhishyanda: Causes severe itching in the eye
  • Raktaja Abhishyanda: Causes itching, pain, burning sensation and redness in the eye

Ayurvedic conjunctivitis treatment includes herbal remedies which are cent percent natural, pure and chemical free. These remedies are absolutely safe to use as they don’t have any side-effects. 
  • East Indian Rosebay: Also known as Chandi, this herb is very effective in conjunctivitis treatment. Drinking the juice of the milk of chandi tree decreases the inflammation and gives a soothing effect to the eye. 
  • Babul: Applying the paste of squashed babul leaves with a bandage on the affected area removes the pain and swelling of the eye. 
  • Triphla: Triphla is an excellent remedy for conjunctivitis treatment. Triphla lotion can be used as an eyewash and the choorna made from Triphla can be taken orally to get relief from conjunctivitis. 
  • Sacred Basil: Taking juice of tulsi plant helps in reducing the inflammation caused by conjunctivitis. Gargle with tulsi leaves in water reduces the sore throat brought up on by conjunctivitis.   
  • Margosa: Also known as neem, margosa aids in conjunctivitis treatment. Make a paste by crushing the neem leaves, mis it with water and apply externally on the eyes. It will reduce the pain and provide relief from conjunctivitis. 
  • Turmeric: Very beneficial in conjunctivitis treatment, turmeric can be consumed orally as an ointment mixed with honey.

When infected with conjunctivitis, the patient should take care of diet and lifestyle. Few tips that would greatly help in conjunctivitis treatment:

  • Do not rub the eyes.
  • Avoid the use of eye lens.
  • Remove sour food items from the diet.
  • Wear sunglasses when stepping outside.
  • Increase the consumption of green leafy vegetables.
